If you are somewhat experenced and do your ressarch and have the right tools, it is fairly easy. It took me a full day by myself to do it.

trust me if you dont have a background in setting up rears, get it done professionally or at least have someone who has experience help u out....the tolerances are so tight and the gears have to setup absolutely perfectly or theyre going to whine and/or fail completely...

So what special tools are required? I think all you need is a dial indicator, some patients, and a torque wrench. I am really tired of this "you can't do that yourself" attitude. I am going to do it myself, and if I **** it up, I'll do it over. For the price you pay someone to do it you could learn how to do it yourself. Worse case scenario is you buy the parts more than once.

Amen! And figure, for a $200 install, that's another set of gears if you screw yours up!

I think you need a pinion depth tool as well. Look around www.drivetrain.com

Needless to say, in 2wks I'm attempting the install of my 4.10's

its acually not that hard to do youself all you need is adial indicator and some patience, i had to take the pinion to machine shop to get the new bearings and shims pressed on, look it up on the internet and there are some good step by step instuctions. come onin only 18 and i did it.
