problems with t56 swap .. important

hey guys,

i'm in the middle of the swap and i have just removed the automatic transmission shifter to steering colum wire..

its what makes the car start in park instead of drive...

i've completely removed mine by accident off of the colunm

i didnt relaize i was pulling on the plastic part too and it pulled away with the cord.

this is the picture of the part i removed... the entire black plastic peice with cord is gone... all thats left in a little metal connector from the yellow plastic wire connection!!!

am i in trouble?

That part can come off. Mine is laying with all other parts from the auto. I just finished doing the a4-m6 swap tonight

You can take it off and throw it out. It does not allow the current through when it is PULLED (when in R/D). P/N allows it to relax. Besides, the cable is a PITA when installing the pedals. But I see your column is out which will make the pedal swap a bit easier.

Also, for those of you doing swaps, make sure you have the steel plate for the inside of the firewall between the clutch pedal bracket and firewall. OR you will rip the M/C right through the firewall. I just got fixing a friends car for that issue. THAT was a PITA.

I don't have the plate which goes between the pedal bracket and the inside fo the fire wall I just bolted the master to the engine side of the firewall and the pedal bracket to the inside. I didn't have a plate that I was aware of. Hope that does't casue a problem down the road.
