I was driveing yesterday at about 45 mph and my car started to smoke from the engine. I pull over and lift my hood and find out the transmission cover (red cover next to the oil stick) was not on all the way and fluid was spilling out and then getting hot from the engine makeing it smoke. I let it cool wape it off, put the cap on and drive off. My car stopped smokeing but As i would drive it seemed like my car was stuck in 1st gear. I would drive and my RPM's would stay high for a while and my car would slow down a little and then it would change. I think my transmission is not changeing gears.

The fluid coming out the dipstick tube is probably a sign of it overheating. The no shift condition is probably because something is cooked. What does the fluid look like? Is it pink, brown, or black? Does it smell burnt?
