posible wrong stall converter

i had a trans 4l60e fully built and a 3200 stall converter (10 inch). im having a problem with the stall speed

after a burnout on m/t drags if i go to stall my car up it starts to load the rear at 1500 and pushes the car at 1800 (back tires rolling not spinning) and front brakes locked and dragging the front tires not rolling them. does this seem like the converter is not at the right stall speed, the shop told me its the brakes in the back are not strong enough to hold the tires ( there new pads and rotors!) and he said that theres nothing that can be done but try it at the track where traction is better???

has anyone else had this problem? i bought the car w/ a 2400 tci converter 3 years ago before i built the motor and never had a problem bringing that converter up to its stall speed?!?!

I dont think the brakes are strong enough. A transbrake could tell you for sure

Re: posible wrong stall converter

My Midwest 3000 would hold until about 2200 rpm before it started to push thru the brakes.

My new Edge 3800 (hits around 4200) will hold to almost 3500 on the brakes before pushing thru.

Re: posible wrong stall converter

so is it possibly the converter? it flashes around 3500 i think? how can i launch the car at 1500?!?! i know you cant put a trans brake in a 4l60e. is there any way i can make the back brakes stronger? i even tried the e brake still can get it up there?

what can i do to fix this, get it re stalled but more loose?

Re: posible wrong stall converter

Youre wrong. You CAN get a transbrake for a 4l60e. If you want to brake stall higher you could always get a higher stall.

Re: posible wrong stall converter

yea you can but every trans shop reccomended me not to put a trans brake in and i posted a thread on here a little while ago and people said its not a good idea on the 4l60e, im sure people have it, so if i want to brake stall it to 3500 i need a larger stall converter like a 4200?

Re: posible wrong stall converter

Not exactly true. Rosslers has one and I hear it's doing very well. Yank told me to stall at 3500 you would need something like a 4000 stall. My 4000 stall should be here soon. Only problem is I wouldnt get a high stall verter just so your brake stall will be higher. You still have to think about shift extension, STR etc. A 4200 stall would be pointless on a obd1 4l60e.

Re: posible wrong stall converter

What are your cam specs? What are all the mods you have? What does your powerband look like? Remember with a 4000 stall tq verter your shift extension will be something like 5k and it's not recomended for use with nitrous. I shift at 6800+. I shouldve dynoed my car first before choosing my stall but I said screw it. Yank and my builder said it would be fine so we shall see. If you ask people on this board (if you even get a reply for this type of question) most will tell you a LT1 shouldnt use anything higher than a 3200 which is bull.

Re: posible wrong stall converter

Well, here's a thought...

You have the tires to hook, so why not just flash the converter at launch? No need to stall up at all. Yeah, be hard on the rear, but I don't see why the 12 bolt wouldn't take it without complaint.

Give it a shot... but get to the track, because that setup NEEDS to be played with under real track conditions.

And FWIW, if you have skinnies up front, forget holding back the MTs that way.
