Pinion Install ?

Pinion Install ?
OK, I have a set of 4.11's on order. I am planning on installing them myself. I have done a search and have read a couple of writeups and understand most of what has to be done. The only thing I am not clear on is the crush sleeve and pinion pre-load. Basically what I have read is you torque to pinion nut to 300 - 400 ftlbs to get the pinion bearings to seat and the sleeve to start to colapse. Then you switch over to your torque wrench and torque the nut to 10 - 30 inch pounds depending on new or old bearings. Is this correct. This doesn't sound quiet right. Can anyone give me any more indepth info on this.
Thanks,

How do you set the rear up with the solid pinion support? I have heard that was a good way to go. How does the preload work with it? Thanks,

well I had the advatage of just swaping out them out so I just had to mic the crush sleave and I was all set. I think it has instructions on how to do it in the kit.

Thanks,
I just e-mail Ratech to see if the kit come with the instructions for setting the preload with the solid spacer. We'll see what they came back with. Anyone every install one of these and have any experience to share?

Were you just swapping the crush sleeve or a complete gear swap? You basically measured the length of the crush sleeve put the solid spacer and shims in to match? What did you torque to pinion nut to?

Yes that is what I did. I just used a impact to snug it up
