Pilot Bearing Install

Finally getting to install some of the parts for my T56 Conversion, but ran into a problem. With the pilot bearing you have two choices of direction:

A) This end is a flat surface with a bevel on the inner diameter. In addition it has a seal ONLY on this end.

B) This end you can see what appears to be the outer casing of the bearing and the inner components, but there is no seal on this end.

So my question is, which end is supposed to face the crank?
Thanks

I have always installed it with the beveled side facing toward the tranny.

When you say beveled side, are you referring to the side that has the large bevel in the inner diameter along with a seal? That would make sense seeing that it would be pointless to have a seal on the inside of the bearing facing the crank. I'd think if you wanted to retain lube, you'd want the seal on the side facing the trans.
