series 2 accomodates the large pinion size of 2.73s' and 3.08s',series 3 gearsets don't have the large pinion size so they were able to move the carrier flange closer to the pinion centerline.

Sure. By the time you get it installed, you will have a $1,000 investment in a weak design 10-bolt rear. The posi will be strong, but its still running a scrawny 7.5" ring gear.
