150,000 miles on your original Auburn 'posi',it's probably wore out beyond capable of acting as a 'posi'.

series 2 accomodates the large pinion size of 2.73s' and 3.08s',series 3 gearsets don't have the large pinion size so they were able to move the carrier flange closer to the pinion centerline.

OK. When I buy a new posi unit, I just need to buy a Eaton posi with the series 3 carrier and buy the gear set that matches the series 3 posi....

Sure. By the time you get it installed, you will have a $1,000 investment in a weak design 10-bolt rear. The posi will be strong, but its still running a scrawny 7.5" ring gear.

The weak design + the 20% added strength from the mods....Im hoping that it will stay together since i will be running street tires.

A Ford 9" would be nice tho

there will be NO +20% added strenght, the OEM 2.73,3.23,& 3.42 are the strongest.
To get a 20% stronger setup, you'd have to go 12 bolt.

"the 20% increase in strength" was stated by the articles that were posted. I suppose its refering to the Yukon axles
