Question Noob question

I have a 3200 stall tc from precision industries and I want to install it with mods listed in my sig. My tranny is still stock and so are my gears (2:73). Do I need to upgrade my gears and tranny or do you think it will be ok. I had a dealer go through my tranny 2 years ago and have not had any problems since. Thanks

Well, your needs would be relative to your plans for the car. Are you going to go hot-lap it at the drag strip every weekend, or do you just want to make it a bit more exciting to drive?

If you're serious about getting off the line quickly, those 2.73:1 gears aren't helping. The new converter will help some, but a set of 3.23 (or better yet, 3.73) gears would do a lot too. As far as reliability, you're actually better off with the 2.73's.

The stock transmission can take a decent bit of abuse, but it does have its weak points. Keep in mind that any performance upgrade will increase the stresses on the transmission. You can send your transmission off to Cahall Performance Transmissions and for $700 it'll come back ready to withstand more abuse than most people will ever throw at a transmission. CPT is a supporting vendor of this site, and Frank Cahall really knows his stuff.

With a 3200 stall and 3.73s, you're going to be having traction issues at the drag strip. Be aware that if you add a sticky set of tires to that combination, you're dramatically increasing the risk of breaking the stock rear end.

I know about frank and my plan is to get a set of 3:42 gears installed. Believe me I know all about the stress of upgrading parts. I just want to know how much stress the new tc will cause on my stock tranny. If it will cause too much then I will send it off to Frank before I do the install.

In that case, you have to pull the trans to install the converter... might as well send it out while you have it out, and save yourself the trouble of doing the R&R twice.

That is kind of what I was thinking too.
