Noise from rear of car when going over bumps or dips ?

I just bought my 95 Formula 6spd 2 1/4 months ago and the car had this prob when I bought it. When I go over good sized bumps or even speed bumps at a slow speed I hear this weird noise coming from the back end of my car. It even does it in reverse if I have to back up in a dip or something. I was told it might be the bushings on the rear sway bar. What do you experienced guys think it might be ? (no one was sure when they looked at it to give me a straight answere)

thanx for your help,

Mike

control arm bushings or loose torque arm bolts, but that's just my opinion, I've had both problems. What does it sound like? is it a metallic rattle or a clicking sound or a squeak or.....?

Hmm...well it's hard to say for sure, but I would try the easiest things first. Tighten the rear torque arm bolts (even if they appear tight by hand), and lube the LCA and sway bar bushings and see if there's a difference. Also could be a spring or shock by the sounds of what you're describing but i'm not sure without hearing it.

You should also tighten the Pan Hard arm where it elbows. This joint may appear tight on first inspection, but can produce alot of noise.

And while you're under the car, tighten everything you can find, then perhaps lubricate the sway bar bushings.

Hope this helps

The rear springs tend to squeak at their bottom metal perches when going over bumps. Just put some grease right where the spring sits on the perch and it should take care of it.
