Noise in back when turning... brakes? differential? lsd additive?
Noise in back when turning... brakes? differential? lsd additive?
when i make a hard turn, i can sometimes hear a metal on metal sound. its a metallic grinding. at first i almost thought it was the caliper or rotor grinding on something ... i still think that could be it. it seems to be coming from the left side. I was worried though that it could be the differential? Is this even possible? I took the axle shafts out to do my brake install, and i dont even know what i couold have done wrong putting them back in. I didnt use lsd addative, just the oil. anyone think there is any possibility it could be the diff? ease my mind.

this is the only other post i found on the topic... not too much help.
or how bout this... it is sort of a high pitched metallic noise.... i think its when i turn right i hear it on the left... does that make sense? i did start hearing it after the brake swap...

if it's a high pitched metallic sound than it's probably your caliper rubbing against your brake rotors. I had that problem on my old rear end because of some play on that side. Axle would move in and out a bit. Just a thought

or this one?

so either get a bearing replaced? lsd additive needed? or its just the rotors rubbing on the caliper. I do have some chipping around the outer lip of the rotor...
keep in mind, this doesnt happen when im going slow, no matter how sharp i turn.
hmmm.... and im still talking to myself.

Re: Noise in back when turning... brakes? differential? lsd additive?
I just got new pads and rotors all around and i'm getting the same sound on sharp turns. If i turn left sharply i hear it coming from both left wheels if i turn right both right wheels. Its driving me nuts. It sounds like when my friend's F body's front pads were almost metal to metal.
Re: Noise in back when turning... brakes? differential? lsd additive?
same thing with me.. was on my z, and now on my v6 rear.... i think it might me that i have 18x.95 wheels in the rear, BUT i cant find it scrapping on ANYTHING, i have a HUGE wheel well gap(cant be that), and i dont see the wheel beingtorn into (on the inside) and the tires look completely fine... and it a metal sound... only when making "sharp" kinda fast turns...

Same thing here. When putting a decent side load on the car while turning left, I heard a noise just like you said. Took off the left rear wheel and noticed that the brakepad was only half worn, and the caliper itself was grinding into the rotor.
I also noted that the entire axle had lots of play (1"-1.5"). The entire axle was coming out and hitting the caliper.
As we speak it is in the shop getting the rearend torn down to see if the caliper was the only thing holding the axle in.
Could be a broken c-clip or who knows. Posi hasnt worked since i got the car 4 years ago.
And the 3.73s in my profile are what I'm getting if the carrier and gears need replaced.

Re: Noise in back when turning... brakes? differential? lsd additive?
And the verdict for my car is:
LOTS of metal in the rearend fluid, planetary gears tearing each other apart, carrier is busted in two, c-clip...what c-clip...its gone, left caliper broken because of the load the loose axle was putting on it.
Basicly, Im going to scrap everything except for the housing, ring and pinion gears, and axle shafts. I decided to go with new gears too since the work is allready going to be done. Some nice Moser 3.73s should do the trick.
