Need Transmission Advice.

I'm looking at having around 500 plus ft/lbs of torque and 600 plus horsepower. The car is going to be a street/strip can. I'll cruise around some and race with it also. I've been looking at different trans. and was wondering with one is my best route to go. I've seen some people running the Turbo 350 and some people running the TH400. I don't have a core so thats a factor in that I can't just have one rebuilt. I've thought about just buying one from TCI and getting a torgue converter from them also. Need some advice, I don't want to mess up and not get a trans that won't hold up but I don't need one for a 1,000 hp monster either. So if you've got any ideas give them.

The engine is a BB 454.
Rear end will be a 12 Bolt.

Re: Need Transmission Advice.

TCI is hit or miss, I know people who have gotten good trannys from them, while others will not even live a day.

We have a 4L80E with custom controller behind one of our 700hp 502 pump gas motors and it is living just fine.

Doesn't the 4L80E have to be hocked up to the computer? I'm gonna have a carbed set-up so I won't have any of the computer stuff in the car. If I went with the 4L60E or 4L80E wouldn't I need a stand alone unit like this?

Re: Need Transmission Advice.

A 700 will work for what you're looking for. It's an over drive, and it's much easier to install. You don't need a computer to control it.

We have 700's surving very well in the mid 10's.
