Need Opinion on Tranny Problem

I just got a 96 LT1/Auto Camaro, 13x,000 miles. But it has a tranny problem. When you start the car cold, the tranny is fine. Goes into gear the way it should, does not slip if you let off the brake, tap the gas and it pulls fine. But, if you take it down the road, within a couple of minutes, it starts to slip, and in a matter of a couple seconds after that, it's gone. There are no forward gears at all. Nothing. Anyone know what it might be before I tear it apart. Pump out of the tranny, converter (dont think that could be it), or just need total rebuild. I'm going to check the cooler lines to make sure they aren't plugged off (which will also tell me if it is pumping fluid. I was just curious if anyone had run into this before...

Re: Need Opinion on Tranny Problem

Sounds like a problem in the forward clutches, lip seal, or the forward piston could be cracked. Remember, transmission fluid is similar to engine oil...It's thicker when it's cold. It may have enough viscosity to apply the forward clutches when the fluid is thicker, but it won't as it thins.
Any of these things will require a rebuild.
