Need a little advice...

I have a 1996 camaro Z28, with 135,000 miles on it which I picked up as a toy to go to the track and stuff....
Mods include:
-SLP COLD AIR INTAKE
-UNDERDRIVE PULLY
-Descreened MAFS
-160 degree thermostat
-two high flo cats back to a Magnaflow
-Strut tower brace(SLP)
-Subframe connectors(SLP)
-Just replaced the Clutch (Centerforce dual friction...bla,bla,bla)
-Used Nitto drag radials
-B&M Ripper Shifter
-Drive Shaft Loop (SLP)
-2" Lowering Springs
-STOCK Motor/Trans/Rear

Here is my dilema... last time I took it to the track, I could not get any traction... with the goodyears on it (245-50-16's).... Soon after that day I grenaded the Clutch. So I replaced the clutch with a good one, and got the Nitto's. Now people are telling me to replace the rear gears / carrier, and axels, because they are going to be the next to go. Basically the car is putting out stock horsepower... how concerned do I need to be about breaking the rear or the driveshaft or the axels....?

has anyone had any experience with this.?

Re: Need a little advice...

Depends on how hard you are launching the car. IMO be careful with the drag radials and that clutch its going to launch pretty hard. You have a saftey loop so blowing a driveshaft isnt a huge concern IMO. I would get a 9inch of 12 bolt to be safe. That way you can sell your rearend in working order not for scrap haha.

Re: Need a little advice...

Didnt know if you were joking or not when you said about selling my stock rear end... is there really a market for them, if they are such garbage?????
Thankyou for the advise tho.... The last time I raced it I dropped the clutch while accelerating, which probably ended up to be about 3,500 RPM, and I cooked the goodyears, through first and second. Is that a decent launch with the Nittos, or do you think I'm asking for it????

There is a decent demand for the stock 10 bolts. One reason is that they make a great upgrade rearend for a third-gen. Also, some people don't have the coin to buy a new 9 inch or a 12 bolt so they just keep going through 10 bolt rearends.

Re: Need a little advice...

you will be fine. and if you break it, just buy another. and another, and another, and another. no seriously though you should be ok, also, it depends on if you got the performance axle or the normal one with the car was bought. it depends on your driving too. dont beat on it too bad and you will be ok.
