5 speed Camaro v6 making noises

Can someone please help me. When the car idles it sounds fine. When I am on the throttle it sounds like a gatling gun. Was told that it could be the crank sensor, but open to advice... Thank you

Re: 5 speed Camaro v6 making noises

does it do this at high RPMs too? i had a friend whose 97 GTI did that, and i figured out it was the ridiculous timing advance at wot and low engine speed, causing the engine to knock like crazy. I got him to put some higher octane gas in, and the problem went away (the GTI has an old school distributor, so maybe a camaro wouldnt have the same problem). Still, its cheap and easy to try...

Re: 5 speed Camaro v6 making noises

Your crank position sensor is most likely not the culprit if there is no engine code being thrown, particularly while driving at high rpms. However, you may have a vaccume leak that is only taking affect while actually driving. I recently had a similar problem, however the leak had been there since I bought the car and never seemed to affect it before. I repaired the leak and replaced the PCV valve ($3) and the car runs worlds apart from what it did.
