Unhappy Need help from you pros. please

Two days ago my 4L60-E made a loud pop kinda pop sound when I put it in reverse so I got kinda worried but it drove in drive just fine. I picked my girlfriend up and told her about the sound it had just made then put my car in reverse again and it made to sound again then ran alittle rough. I drove it back to my church got out looked under the car and saw alittle smoke not alot just very very light. It sat for an hour or two then I had my friend follow me home. The car made it home just fine. I didnt park in the drive way cause I didnt want to avoid putting in reverse. So I turned around and parked out front. My friend told me that he saw smoke coming from the car so I looked under but didnt really see any smoke. As my friend left he told me that it looked like I had leaked tranny fluid. I went to see and saw that I had but only when I had turned around.? It didnt leak at all as far as I know except when I made that turn. I looked under the car and found fluid all on the bottom right of the car. I am going to jack it up and see whats all going on tomorrow but I also saw a crack that was in the bell housing is now completly seperated so none the less I need a new tranny cause my car is a 96(one piece casing and bell housing) I need to know if I should swap too a T-56 or just go with another 4L60-E? I am building my car for road racing/autocross not strickly drag and have wanted to change to a stick anyway but I need to know that its worth the extra cash and labor? Will a be better for track racing like I think? please let me know what you think
