need help, did I mess up??
need help, did I mess up??
I just installed a B&M shift kit in an 89 700R4. I installed it because it had a very sloppy 2-3 shift and I wanted to firm it up. The tranny is not in my TA it’s in my 4X4 so I used the heavy-duty setting. I finished up and went for a drive and it was not shifting any firmer so I turned around and headed back home and when it hit the 2-3 shift it slipped like crazy and now it does it every time it hits that shift..it does not slip all the time only when it shifts. And if I am giving it a good amount of gas when it shifts it will slip really bad and rev to about 4 grand before catching 3rd gear.. Did I do something wrong or was the tranny already worn and this kit is just magnifying the slipping..
Re: need help, did I mess up??
OK...UM...Gimme a clue here...LOL What did the fluid look like that came out of the trans.? Burnt smelling or black? Was there alot of black sediment in the bottom of the pan? If so, you're probably dealing with a transmission that was on it's way out.
I'm not real familiar with the B&M 700 shift kit, so I'm not sure what they have you change. If I knew what you modified, I could probably help find if you've made an error.
If you'd like, you can e-mail me your instruction sheet, and i'll take a look at it for you.

Re: need help, did I mess up??
the fluid was a red normal color and did smell a little burnt but not to bad. not alot of sediment in the bottom of the pan, I dont have the instructions with me right now but all that was really involved was rearanging a couple check ***** and leaving a few out. then I had to change the spring in the valve body and change a couple spacers in the acumulator but thats really about it and I was very carfull to check and double check everything I did.
Re: need help, did I mess up??
What did youm use to hold the checkballs to the top of the plate when you put it back up? Are you sure they were all in the correct places, and none moved on you?
