Need advice..rebuild my trans or get an aftermarket? Pros/cons to each?
I'm wanting to get my 4L60E rebuilt or replaced before I move to Hawaii in April. My trans is showing the early signs of getting ready to go out, and I'd like to get it replaced in the continental US to save $$.
That said, I got an estimate today for $1800. That included rebuilding the trans with new Kevlar clutches, increased clutch packs for the 3-4 shift, a custom converter with whatever stall I want, and a shift kit. It also included install/removal from the car. The shop said it would handle 450hp without fear of failure. This is in Alabama, where I'm currently located.
I've also seem the B&M and some other aftermarket transmissions complete for the $1,500 range.
Long story short...better to rebuild my trans or get an aftermarket? I'm looking to future mods, so I want the trans to hold 450HP/500lbs torque.
Also, I have no freakin clue what stall speed to use on the converter. It's primarily a street car with occasional strip use. I listed my mods in the sig for reference.
Any info or opinions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance

with those mods, and sayign u are more of a light driver, and occasinal track, something like 2600, 2800 max, wouldnt pass 2800 or 3K at max...
i'd get it rebuilt, because:
1. that tranny you get will need to be installed unless u can do it yourself
2. shipping
u'll probably get just about same amount of endurance from both... might wanna upgrade the oil pan for a bigger one while doing that too...
i have seen the trannies you are talking about for 1K with 600 core tho
dont u hate fixing things up that brake? for that 1800, u could have bougt a used/fairly new blower
