Moser 12 bolt or Moser 9 inch???

Which set-up would be the strongest? Anyone have any suggestions on which is better? Or a different brand that is better?

the 9 inch will be "stronger"

but ask yourself this.

do you really need it? and do you want it to suck up more power then a 12 bolt?

how much power are you planing on putiing through it?

I love my moser 12 bolt. it was well well worth it and have no problems with it and it doesn;t feel like a whole lot of extra loss through the bigg *** rear

In "base" configuration, the 9-inch isn't really any stronger than a well-built 12-bolt. But there are an infinite number of upgrades that will allow the 9-inch to handle more power than any of us are likely to throw at it. But there is a down side... 3% more power loss, dimensional issues with the lower pinion shaft centerline, and fitting things into the DS tunnel, extra weight, etc.

As a guideline, I think up to 750-800flywheel HP the 12-bolt is a better choice. Over that, start looking at a beefed-up 9-inch. And, don't rule out the Strange 12-bolt. It has a number of advantages (and a few shortcomings) compared to the Moser.

You might want to go to the "Drivetrain" forum and try a search... this question is asked there all the time. And someone will probably move this thread over there anyway.

I went with the Chevy 12 bolt, 3:42's with Eaton Posi and C-Clip eliminators instead of a Ford 9 inch. I wanted a "Chevy in my Chevy". I had a pro A/Gas racer friend tell me that the 12 bolt has a lighter rotating mass and will therefore give you some small ET gain and is plenty strong for street cars and some drag racers.

My recommendation would be to go with a Moser 12 bolt.

hello, i just purchased my Moser 9" 31 spline, 4:33 aluminum case and the same question that came to mind was i have bad luck with doing things twice with this car and the 9" will offer a little more insurence on the strength over a 12 bolt. There are more stories of 12 bolts breaking over 9" so.... I know it could happen, but in my flip of the coin was 9". Make sure the power in the future will have a strong rear end.

700rwhp

I was planning on a Moser 12 bolt, but have heard the 9's are stronger......prbably just cause they are comparing 9"fords to 10bolt GM's........lol

Will a moser 12-bolt handle 700rwhp?

Why would you buy a 12 bolt when you can get a comparable strength 9" for ~1k less????

My 9" cost like 1300. Putting a chevy in your chevy is just lame.

Fred, you've mentioned "a few shortcomings... what do you mean?
I've just ordered a Strange 12 bolt w/ the SuperStrength posi unit, I know it is expensive, but are there really any more disadvantages compared to the Moser unit?
TIA,

Yes if built right I believe a Moser 12 bolt can take 700 rwhp. The most important thing and one everyone overlooks is suspension geometry. Also how do you plan on making 700 rwhp?

TIA,
Delivery takes forever

Cost is higher than Moser, although I'm not sure the Moser buyers realize how many things they paid extra for, that are "standard" on the Strange

Axle tubes are smaller on the Strange, which some people consider "weaker".... but I don't know that I agree.

The Strange ABS sensor is "so-so". I never had good luck with it.

Are you talking about a 9" for a 4th gen? If so, where the hell can you get one for $1300? I definitely want to know!
