Metal shavings

I replace the diff fluid the other day & noticed that the magnet on the cover had some metal shavings. Is this normal for an 84K LSD first fluid change? The gears looked fine, should I be concerned?

Normal as far as I know. Just changed my diff fluid and I had a lot of metal shavings. As long as there are no chunks on there, just clean off the magnet. If you have any doubts, check the magnet a few thousand miles later and see how many shavings there are.

This was the first time the cover had been off in 84K miles. No chunks, the teeth looked fine. I just didn't know if a little bit of metal shavings was OK given the miles.
