McLeod Street Twin

Stock tranny, stock ds, stock rear...

I know this thing gets violent... but how violent? I'm being told that even roll racing is a complete no no?

I have a VR 383 with LE3 package... I'm obviously going to be swapping the rest of the drivetrain out, but as of now i'm **** poor because of the motor build.

I don't powershift, and I don't race often, but I definitely wanted to open it up some once the motor is broken in. Still no good you guys think?

Re: McLeod Street Twin

The ST is a very streetable clutch. I have over 20K miles on mine, 99% on the street. Very little clutch chatter, firmer peddle but not bad.

Re: McLeod Street Twin

I'm not sure I even understand your question. Are you asking if the Street Twin is so "violent" that it will damage your stock drivetrain? Sure, if you wind it to 6-grand and sidestep the pedal, and you have any traction at all.

Or are you asking if its "violent" to drive on the street? If that's the question, same answer as above..... its very similar to the stock clutch in manners, with maybe 25% more pedal pressure. Very streetable..... only difference is once it engages, its definitely hooked up.

Re: McLeod Street Twin

My street twin is very easy to drive on the street (I have a steel flywheel)

But just this saturday I did my burnout pulled up to the line at milan dragway set 5K on the clock and side steped the clutch. BLAM!!!! went the drivers side half shaft. (I have a vette)

Street twins rule but be prepaired to replace stuff behind it.

Re: McLeod Street Twin

Sorry... I should of been more specific. Sorry about that.

Basically will roll racing still destroy by drivetrain?

I don't powershift, I do let off the gas when shifting gears.

But I am worried about shifting hard from 1-2, 2-3, 3-4...?

Breaking something... I doubt I will have traction so hrm...

Re: McLeod Street Twin

Without traction you won't harm your drivetrain, but of course you won't go that fast either.

Re: McLeod Street Twin

How about the 3-4 shifts if you don't have the power to actually burn the tires up? Or even the 2-3?

Re: McLeod Street Twin

I'm really just worried about roll racing and breaking the rear or trans during some hard shifts. Given I won't be doing powershifting, but I will be shifting hard. I don't do it often, but would like too.

LE3 package for a 383... Street Twin and stock drivetrain.

Damn... haha I know this is a frequently asked question. But I can't really find the exact answer i'm looking for.

I know it's also a throw up and a hit or miss situation. But some passed experiences would be great. Some info from knowledable fellas would be great too.

Re: McLeod Street Twin

You will be fine, as long as you have the T56 beefed up (aka Viper upgrade) and you have a 12 bolt or 9 inch. I would beat the livin crap out of it and not worry about it at all. I have both upgrades (T56 viper upgrade & 12 bolt MOSER (4:11's)) and my Street Twin with the billet steel flywheel feels like stock (maybe 25% more pedal pressure, as stated by someone else). It also engages like a stock clutch with absolutely no chatter. I have launched the car at 5500 rpm's on slicks a couple of times and no damage. I'm not making the horsepower you are, but I feel confident that if you have the other two supporting upgrades you will be fine whether it's roll racing or from a dig.

Re: McLeod Street Twin

I think ya got it right about being hit or miss. My guess is, chances are you should be fine...but you never know. In your mind you KNOW you will break it, and your are looking for some assurance that it may not. Drive it like you will, it may break...it may not. You also KNOW you will be replacing it relatively soon anyways, so I wouldn't worry about it. Drive it like ya stole it! This probably isn't a great comparison, but I had a Spec 3, with M6 and 3.23 gears...and split the carrier/posi almost all the way around and various other internals in the rear on the street on a hard 1-2 shift. Trust me, i didn't have alot of traction, was on street tires...heck best 60ft at the track was a 2.2x. That was also with alot less HP than you have.
