Mcleod single disk good for 400+ hp
Mcleod single disk good for 400+ hp
I was wondering if the mcleod single disk clutch would be suitable for a blower car in the low 400 hp range. I know the street twin is the ultimate clutch but for half the price i might take a chance on the single disk. This car is only a weekend cruiser and will see limited track use and will only be used with nitto DR's. No slicks. What do you think?
NO DO NOT GET IT!!!ok first when i put it in the clutch fork was contacting the pressure plate when i depressed the clutch pedal all the way....so i had to pull the trans down and grind down the t-bar that locates the clutch fork aftre doing this the clutch would still not fully disengage. It took 600 miles of driving now it just barely releases all the way.....So i took the car to the track (fwiw car makes 428rwhp 410rwtq) w/ bfg drag radials on it was takin it outta the hole bout 2500 rpm clutch was good but after hot lapping it the clutch was slipping (minimally but i still felt it)going into 2 3 and 4 (powershifting).....so let the car cool off all is good again. netted a best of 12.08@119 w/ crap 1.95 60'......so n ext trip to the track i was shooton for 11's and better 60' so i take it out at 2800 rpm a little better 12.02@118 w/ 1.92 so i let the car cool off proceed w/ a 2nd gear burnout, stage, bring it up to 3200 and let er rip.... car lunges forward i move about 20' and the clutch just completely slipped it was almost like neutral tried to grab second but nothing..... so i coast for a sec put it in 3rd and baby it down the track and to the pits... let it cool off and did a few dry hops in the pits but no more runs that night loaded it on the trailer and went home.....100 miles later clutch still works fine on the strret
Sorry for the long post just wanted to share my experiance....for the street the clutch has great manners it handles my combo on the street.... but with any amount of torque and sticky tires and it'll slip....i'm looking into the ram powergrip hd if not just gonna go straight to the twin disk

I've tried installing both powergrip and mccleod, powergrip is the biggest peice of **** company w/ the ****tyest customer service ever. They sent me the wrong pp, and wouldnt refund my shipping. Biggest Pile ever. Use the mccleod single disk. Mine had engadement problems so I sent it back to them and they ground it down.
Well I am starting to notice some clutch slip with my new 400RWHP motor (see sig).
I am looking to just purchase a clutch disk and I am leaning toward the Mcleod 261871:

I can not afford the street twin, but it is not totally off the table. I am getting very mixed feelings with the Mcleod single disk. I want something that is NOT grabby and something that does not chatter bad.
Who has decent success with this disk?
