Mcleod S/T install help please
Mcleod S/T install help please
I put everything together and went to ops check it and got a loud pinging sound. took the tranny back out and found that the clutch pressure plate studs were hitting the slave cyl fork??? Why is this happening and what can I do to fix this? Thanks
Re: Mcleod S/T install help please
OK, I don't know why, but I purchased my MST from summitt and this is how I fixed the problem you are haveng. I cut the studs off at the nuts all around the clutch. No more pinging and things seem to be working fine. I tALked to McCloud and they said that "maybe" the wrong length studs were installed??? but they didn't know why. I asked them about cuttng them off and they told me that that would be fine. They were right, but I still don't know why this happened. Cut the studs flush with all of the bolts and things should work out fine for you. Good luck with that clutch hooking!!

Actually my problem is worse. The studs took a chunk off my clutch fork and exploded my slave cylider right off its mounts
I have pics here: http://www.cardomain.com/memberpage/107430/5 (site is down at the moment I think). McLeod told me to send the assy. in to evaluate the damage and then they would send replacement parts -- they did admit fault in this.

Dang man! That same exact thing would have happeneed to me if I wasn't carefull when I tested it for the first time. When I let out on the clutch (very slowly ) I started to hear the same noise that you heard when your clutch fork was hitting. That's when I took it back apart and shaved off thoes studs that it was hitting on. That is what ruined your clutch fork is the studs. don't put your new fork back in there until you cut the studs flush with the bolts or it will happen again. Or you can send it back to Mcleod and they will be able to put shorter studs in. ( I'd just cut them off ) That is what Mcleod told me to do. And about your master cylander...
That's kind of handy though, you had to take it out to put your adjustable in there anyway right.
Good luck man

Yeah we are the only two people on this board that had this problem. McLeod wants me to send everything back in, and that is what I will do. They say they will inspect it, but it's probably their fault (duh!) and they promised to send me one of their nifty metal slaves plus I will demand a new clutch fork. Great customer service if you ask me, so I'm not too pissed anymore
Re: Mcleod S/T install help please
Yea...I'm glad to hear that you have figured out the problem. I knew that it was the same thing as soon as I read your thread. I didn't damage my clutch fork as bad as you did but if I did I'd be as mad as you. Glad to hear that you got things straight with them. They really are a good company to deal with.
