Mcleod Clutch/Factory Slave Cylinder
I have a problem with the Slave cylinder. I bought the car some time ago, and it has installed the Mcleod Twin Plate clutch kit with aluminum flywheel. A few days ago, I was driving in a stop and go traffic for like an hour and a half. It obviously blew the gasket on the slave cylinder. So I bought a new master and slave cylinder (97 Camaro SS by the way) and I put em in. Now the clutch engages into gear alot higher than before and is not stiff like it was. I know for a fact that the clutch is good. So there's gotta be somethin wrong with the hydraulics. I asked the guy I bought the car from and he told me that when he bought the Mcleod clutch ($1200), they sent him a slave cylinder piston with it. Would that be why the clutch was stiff and gripped lower? Am I supposed to put that Mcleod slave cylinder piston in the new factory slave to get that effect? And if so, can I reuse the old one from the old factory slave cylinder or do I have to buy a new piston?
Re: Mcleod Clutch/Factory Slave Cylinder
I've heard that the McLeod needs an adjustable master cylinder, do you have one. If so, maybe all you need is an adjustment to compensate for the new slave.
Re: Mcleod Clutch/Factory Slave Cylinder
The early ST systems came with a slave cylinder piston rebuild kit that shortens the throw of the slave. McLeod has abandoned this design and now sells an adjustable Master cylinder. The adjustable master cylinder uses a stock slave cylinder.
Re: Mcleod Clutch/Factory Slave Cylinder
Is it possible that from this my car could be slower? Because I took the car to the dealer and they changed my A.I.R. injection pump. They said it was a recall. Now the car doesn't accelerate like before.
Re: Mcleod Clutch/Factory Slave Cylinder
I just bought a McLeod street twin and I'm installing it with my new 383 setup. The clutch kit came with the McLeod adjustable master cylinder, and the instructions state that it must be used with the stock slave cylinder. I went ahead and bought a new GM master/slave cylinder (from Dal: $104), drillled out the restriction in the new braided line, and installed the line and the new slave cylinder with the McLeod master cylinder. The Tech guy at McLeod said that the Heim joint on the McLeod master cylinder is only used to adjust the fit up to the clutch pedal pivot pin, not to adjust the hydraulics on the master cylinder. He said that when it's right, the clutch pedal will be about 1" lower than the brake pedal.
