M28 trans with 3.42's or 3.23's?
I did a swap into my '94 3.23 A4 equipped car using an M28 tranny. It works fine and has plenty of low end grunt, but was considering a bump to 3.42's to help keep my car from surging in gear (mild just under 45mph). Has a 224/232 grind in it now that I'll be swapping to a cc306 soon. It runs 2100 at 80 mph, and will only run 2250 with 3.42's.
M28's came originally with 2.73's. Is it worth changing gears from 3.23's to 3.42's? I'll be adding a torsen HD posi and cover so I'll be down there to do it...

i thought it was m29 2.73 and m28 3.23 (because the m29 is the viper tranny right? and has a steep first gear ratio)
maybe i'm wrong, i can't quite remember

The M28 does have a 2.73 gear. And lets just say the tranny can take some power.
