LT1 converter questions???

Ive been doing searches for about an hour now and it has me more confused than anything. This is a setup that is in a 79 Malibu Wagon

I am currently running a stock LT1 ('94) with a 4L60E. 4.10 gears and It will have a TransGo shift kit in it. What is the best brand and stall of converter to go with for the application. I am looking into a bigger cam, but I have not decided that for sure yet.

Also can someone clear up the whole issue with too big of a stall messing with the computer problem for me?

Can't recommend a specific stall speed without knowing what cam you will be running and if you plan to optimize street or strip use.

Vigilante converters have a very good name around here. You also might look into Coan Converters.

right now it will be pretty much stock with the exception of the Hot Cam kit with the 1.6 rockers on it. Transgo kit and 4.11 gears will also accomidate the drivetrain.

Since your car is OBDI, you will be limited to a 2,600-2,800 stall. But that's about what you need anyway so it's no problem. As I posted before, Vig has a good rep. My personal choice is Coan.

Why limited to 2800 since he's OBD I? Of course there's always the high stall problem, but it's fairly rare. I've got a 3200 RPM converter in mine.

Edge, Midwest, Yank, Vig, and TCI all seem to make some really good converters.

With reading other posts, it looks like the biggest battle is between a Midwest and a TCI. I think I can get a little better deal on a TCI or a BTE from a local speed shop, I am just going to do some more checking around.

My edge converter was the same price if not cheaper than midwest's. I would definetely check out both companies. Edge had WONDERFUL service.

I went ahead and bought a BTE 2400 stall 12" converter. It ran about 379.00. I will let you know what I think of it when I get it in and going.
