LT1 6 speed in LS1?

I have a donor 1995 TA with everything needed to do a tranny swap, but will it fit in a 1999 TA A4 with no problems?

personally for the work needed to do the swap you are better off selling all the Lt1 parts and get your hands on an Ls1 drivetrain! jmho........

I would love to see this swap, if for no other reason than to hear all the LS1 people kick and scream about it!

HUH?! you do realize that both LT1s and LS1s use T56 trannys right the only difference is the clutch setup. Some people even argue that the Borg Warner made T56s in the LT1s were had better quality control than the Tremec T56s that were made in mexico.

and your point is?
by the time you get all the parts to make it fit you can have the correct tranny in there!

AFAIK the price of swapping out the input shaft puts this in the not economical category.

As one poster above said, sell the LT1 trans and take that money to buy an LS1 trans.

And this is not an engine tech question it's a drivetrain question so I'll be moving it.

I have done it. You need to swap out the input shaft, front adapter plate, and bellhousing. All these parts are harder to find and more expensive for the LT1 than the LS1 if looking at eBay or Craigslist, etc. You should come out ahead or at least break even on the swaps. You will also need a 98+ slave cylinder and 98+ clutch setup naturally. Good luck, it's not that hard imo.

poor man said it, I'm with him, it's not that hard. The T56 is pretty straight forward.

You may come out ahead by selling the LT1 T56 and buying an LS1 T56.

The musclecar/streetrod guys buy those LT1 T56s up for whatever $$ you are asking because they will bolt right up to any SBC or BBC. Well, that is what the guy that bought my T56 said.
