loud screech when shifting
loud screech when shifting
So i let my friend drive my car yesterday, possibly the only person i would trust to do so. And we are driving around and i let him floor it a few times. The one time he does it we were in second already (the car is auto and i have a transgo) and when the car shifts into second all way up in them RPMs there was a loud screech. I used the search and found people saying it was the belt but he said it was something with the clutches. I dont remember what he said but i was wondering if someone could explain how it is the belt and maybe what hes talking about?
Re: loud screech when shifting
I second that belt
belt's squeal screech etc. when they harden, when they slip, loosen.... usually slippage occurs under acceleration. replace belt and tensioner

You can find info on releasing the tensioner on the belt in the cam removal guide on my Tech Page. You will need to get at it from underneath.

Remove the serpentine belt by releasing the tensioner. A 13mm socket placed on the tensioner pulley bolt and pulled clock-wise will take tension off the belt. You will need to leave yourself room to get your socket and ratchet off, as the tensioner will return farther CCW with the belt off.
