The Mickey's killed another rear end

So I was coming home from work the other day when I started hearing a rear end whine. I get home to see a 1/2 hole in the diff cover where some debris was shot out. No fluid left in it. So I took the cover off , and the ABS gear has been destroyed. Every tooth on the ring has been ate up. From the inside of the cover it looks like the whole ring set walked and the ABS gear rubbed on the diff cover. The magnet on the diff cover was full of metal shards, and I scraped a lot of bigger pieces out from the bottom of the case. I welded the hole in the cover, filled it up with fluid and drove it down the road. The thing sounds like I have a roots blower on it This is the second rear end in 15months I've gone through. The first one had the axle spilnes go. That was on street tires. I've been running M/T ET Street drag radials for about 2 months on this. Bye my calculations I can replace the rear 5 more times before my cost is equal to a Moser 12 bolt Hopefully it doesn't come to that. If I wouldn't have been in a hurry I would have taken some pictures.

LOL, I hope your not paying retail/full price for boneyard rears or replacement internals. Back when I still had the stock diff I literally went through 4 rear ends-luckily I have a buddy that parts these cars out so diffs were free and it was just a time issue to swap them out, but even that got very old very fast and dropping the $2500 on the Ford 9" was money well spent.

Just keep in mind every dollar you spend fixing the stock junk is a dollar that could be put towards a permenant answer.

I definately agree with you there, but when it happens unexpectedly it can be difficult to come up with a couple grand quick. There's a place around my house I go to that sells the 10 bolts for $200-$250. I payed $230 for my last one. I think it's going to be one more 10 bolt before I can get a Moser or a 9 inch. It will definatly be going on with street tires though.
