Looking for gear brand suggestions

The rear is whining in my 95 Z and I've been told its the pinion bearings. I figured now is a good time to swap out the gears and go 3.73 (no 4.10's, this is street driven more than it's raced!). I've read that Richmond gears tend to be noisy. What about SLP gear set? Or should I stick with good ole' GM genuine parts. Thx folks.

Re: Looking for gear brand suggestions

If you hate whine, don't go the Richmond route. I had 2 sets in my 10 bolt. 3.73's and 4.10's and both were noisy. I finally went with 4.10 Motive gears and they were pretty quiet. Had a slight whine, but almost not even noticable. I would consider 4.10's though since you have a 6spd. Even though it's a street car, 4.10's in the 6's are very streetable. 3.73's aren't as much of a step up from your 3.42. If you dead set against 4.10's, i'd stick with the quiet stock 3.42's if your worried about whine and just go through the rear and replace all the bearings and redo a setup.

agreed, i just got my 4:11's in the car today...boy do they wake the car up! i wouldnt even consider 3:73s on a M6...I drive my car everyday, and its not as harsh as you think it would be...Go with the 4:10's

What about fears of breaking the stock rearend? Like I said, this is for the most part a daily driver but I have taken it to the track on occassion (but I ain't doing any 5000-6000 RPM launches neither). I'm running Nittos on the rear and from all the reading I've been doing, I should be safe.

I just put Motive 4.11 gears in mine and they make no more noise than stock. Installed them myself as well.

For a street gear, the GM gears are a great choice.
