To lockup or not

With the 4L60E 1995 Z28, I heard you need a lockup type converter or else the computer will throw codes. Does a converter lock even though it has not reached its full stall when cruising? Should I get a non lockup instead?

I'd think You want a Lock up convertor.
I can tell you when my Trans was messed up and the stall wouldn't lock up I got poor Gas Mileage.

I really can't think of why you not want a lock up convertor.

This is probably a drivetrain tech thread, but what exactly does a lockup converter do compared to one that doesn't?

There is a clutch in it that when the tranny routes fluid a certain way causes the clutch to lock and the converter to have zero slip, this reduces heat and increases milage. If a TC company tries to talk you into a non-lockup I suggest going elsewhere.
