To Locktite or Not???

Question To Locktite or Not???

Guys,

I'll be putting the T56 back in this weekend along with the new clutch and resurfaced flywheel. A question:

Do you used locktite on the following and what color (red/blue)?

Flywheel bolts to crank
Pressure Plate bolts to flywheel
Bell Housing bolts to block
Tranny bolts to bellhousing
Cap bolts on rear driveshaft yoke
Shifter Plate

only a vary small amount on the crank bolts...red

nothing else. matbe some anti seaze on anything that goes in aluminum....

I use blue on the flywheel bolts and especially on the pressure plate bolts since they only torque to 22#. None nedded on the other locations.

This is the first time I used blue, I normaly use red but I want to reduce the risk for disassembly damage in the future.

I use blue 242 also. Torque holds them in, the locktite just keeps the vibes from rattling them out. Not that red 271 would hurt, but it does make it more of a bear to remove unless you use the air tool or a little heat. I got about 6 kinds of locktite and its one of the best products out there that does exactly what it says it will. The hydraulic 245 is a godsend if you ever have a leaky anything.

I use it on the flywheel to crank and pressure plate to flywheel bolts. I used the red because it's what I had...blue would've been prefered. Other than that the other bolts will be torqued down plenty to stay in place.

I used red on the clutch fork pivot bolt, read stories on here about that thing backing off. Didn't use any on my ARP flywheel bolts, wondering now if I should have...

Well I was gonna say that I've never had flywheel or pressure plate bolts come loose in my life before I ever used locktite. If you tightened them correctly, they should be OK. Locktite is kind of like safety wiring - on a healthy correctly torqued fastener - it's extra insurance. On anything that vibrates a lot like a Harley, Locktite is more of a must have item.

Thanks to everyone. I put her all back together tonight and OH MY GOD, it hasn't shifted that smooth since she was new. Worked out great and I appreciate all your input.
