Kickdown to Neutral??

Hi all-
Just bought my 94 A4 Z28. Tranny seems to shift great and has no problems except when on the highway. If you are going 65 or so and mash the go pedal, it downshifts into nothing...like it's in neutral. The tack hits the rev limiter and the car goes nowhere. As soon as you let off, it it goes back into gear and works fine. I've noticed if you don't hammer it all the way, it will shift down 1 gear fine (or is that just unlocking the converter). I don't know jack about A4s so any help is appreiciated!

BTW...I think the car has a cal with adjusted shift firmness because the car will get 2nd gear rubber very easy if you are into it at all.

Thanks,
Chad-
