Just one irritating bolt to go...

Ok, the top pass. side tranny bolt that connects to the bell housing. Whomever worked on my car last put the semi-flexible breather hose and the hose mount directly in the way of the bolt...or so it seems.

Just to clarify, on the pass. side upper bolt holding the tranny to the bell housing, this is VERY hard to get at. The reason being is the guy who did my tranny before put the semi-flexible breather hose support on this bolt and directly in the way of where I need to hook up my ratchet to the bolt. Now I assume he used a power tool and just let this bracket move until while he tightened it not thinking that someday someone would need access to it.

I am seriously thinking of breaking that bracket and getting a new one. Its such a tight squeeze however that I cannot get leverage with my fingers to bend it.

ANY suggestions would help.

What is an easy way to get at this bolt if my breather hose and its metal support are right there in the way? I have a 10" and 6" 3/8 extension and a 3/8" flex conn. Do I need a 1/4" conn to make things smaller or something?

Thanks all.

Ben

If I remember correctly I fumbled around with a bolt on the drivers side for two hours before I went to sears and bought a 14mm swivel/socket. It cost 7.00 but once I got home it took me 5 minutes to finish the job.

Thanks for that, but this is the passenger side connecting the tranny to the bell housing and it is 15mm.

heres whatll make it as easy as it gets, and please stop crybabying about what some mechanic did before you got there. probably was trying to, gad forbid, do the job correctly, which from your description, is, and make some money, somewhat close to enough to help make up the friggin cranium ache of dealing with people who know everything about everything except how to do the job that they are snivelling about. you need a chrome-repeat chrome-could be black impact but chromie makes it easier 3/8 drive wobblie socket and a transmission extension. basically a 36 inch extension with a half drive on one end and a 3/8ths drive on the business end. snap on gots a good one but the large diameter is maintained for the entire length, makes it tougher to squeeze in there. mac makes one that tapers down to a standard 3/8 extension diameter right after the 1/2 drive end, but that design gives up some torsional rigidity for the sake of fitting sometimes where the snap on cant. i got em both, and yes, they arent cheap but think of that next time you are wondering why shop rate is 65 an hour. no disrespect intended, just a viewpoint offered up from the other side of the counter.

Either that, or call up your friend and combind all the 3" extensions you have adding up to about 4' of extensions, the play in it was rediculous, but it got the job done

Yeah you keep to your name for sure.

As for the bolt, I got it out after getting 29" of extensions and wrangling for a 1/2 hour.

Thanks all that gave me input - except you Bitchyoilchimp.
