Issue shifting from 1st to 2nd

I have a 2002 Z28 with about 36k miles on it. The last month or so i've had an issue with shifting up from 1st to 2nd. Essentially when i shift to 2nd straight from 1st it feels like my shifter is stumbling as it gets in to gear or like its clipping something. If i go from first push the clutch in and let the rpm's come down to 1k and shift there is no issue. When shifting from 3rd to 2nd or any other gear there is no issue. I talked to the midas around here and they just want to take apart the whole clutch system for about $1400. just seeing what my best option would be.

Have you disabled the "skip shift" feature? That blocks the 1st to 2nd gear shift, and forces you into 4th under certain combinations of RPM and throttle position.

I've disabled the feature but it was one 10 years ago, I'm going to check it tomorrow and see if maybe its bad or disconnected, i didn't even think about that. I'll repost with what i find, thanks.

If it's not skip shift, it sounds like a bad synchro to me. That's inside the Trans and definitely not something I would trust to a generic shop like Midas.

Re: Issue shifting from 1st to 2nd

I got under the car and couldn't find any real issue with the piece, i'm figuring i can just replace it and see if it fixes it but the issue is just first to second. It isnt that it doesnt let me shift into second, it just feels like its bumping into something and then goes into gear. Also i'm not sure if its related but occasionally from a stop when i shift to 1st or reverse its stiff getting in and i may have to shift to a different gear first before its smooth.

Throwout bearing? or clutch clearance? problems like that usually mean the clutch is not completely disengaging for one reason or another

i was thinking throwout bearing. when i had called midas previously they said they would charge 1400 cause to do the throwout bearing they have to do the whole clutch system. Any way around that?
