intelligent opinions on gears 373?

i have a 2800 stall billet convertor and 275/40/r18 rear tires and am definitly thinking of gears next.probably strange.gas milage isnt to much of a big deal but would 373 be efficient enough for the large tires in the rear?also which rateck install kit should i get the complete, and whats a crush collar spacer and would i need that.thanks ya ll

Since you don't have a cam (atleast I dont see one in your signature) I would say 3.73 gears would be fine for your application. If you wanted to get higher gears it may interfere with your drivability on the 4l60E...

4.10's isnt bad if you dont care bout road driving as your daily. heads and cam would be great for 4.10's

You might want to think about getting a solid crush sleeve and shim it. I just had some 3.73s installed last week and was talking to the guy while he was installing them. He said that much of the reason our rear ends fail is due to the flexible crush sleeve warping under torque. Due to the slope of the gears, when you put torque through them the pinion tends to want to shoot out of the housing towards the trans and presses against the sleeve. When the sleeve warps, it puts the pinion teeth way off base of the ring gear and the contact patches are located more towards the edges of the teeth. And after it warps the pinion will slide or bounce around on the ring gear and stripped/broken teeth are the result.

He even showed me how it does it by moving the pinion around while turning the assembly and letting the marking grease show how the contact patches were moving around on the ring gear. Pretty interesting.
