Installing M6 Tranny.... OMG, SOB.
I have never installed my transmission by myself, I have always removed it by myself without any problems though.
Well I finally got time to install my transmission but everyone who normally helps me was unavailable today.
OMG is all I have to say!
I finally just ended up bench pressing the SOB into place. It took all of 5minutes to actually get it in the car, but now my shoulder is a little sore and my chest is sore.
So I guess bench pressing the tranny in the car can be done, but it isnt for the faint of heart! The balancing act trying to align it into the correct position was the hardest part, getting up where it needed to be wasnt too difficult.
Anyways, just wanted to rant.

I am assuming that you are doing this on jackstands.
Most people balance the tranny on the floorjack, I have a small u-shaped cradle that bolts to the floorjack pad. This cradle is made out of 2x6 and 2x4 scraps. This takes all the weight out of the equation and sets the angle too. Doing it this way makes it so easy to do my wife could do it.
Sounds like you did it the very hard way.

I have a nice jack, but it doesnt have a big cradle. After trying to balance it and try and guess where the shaft was I just got fustrated and used the brute strength method..
Other than a sore shoulder it went in great.

Next time just build a small wooden cradle, screw it to the jack pad and you will be better off.

My buddy did the same thing . I guess frustration, determination and no other means of getting the job done helps build the required amount energy to muscle that bad-boy up in there??! My Dad has a proper tranny jack, so it's a complete joke for me to do it myself ... although the first time there was still a bit of a "learning curve" .

My scrawing **** can't bench press ~180lbs, so the first time I had to install it I used an engine hoist to hold up the tailhousing (throught the shifter hole) and a regular floor jack to jack the front end up. That way wasn't too bad. The last two times i barrowed my neighbor's tranny jack, but inorder to get the tranny on the tranny jack i had to jack the car up almost 3ft in the air.
