i bought my fist camaro but......

i bought a 95 camaro z-28 off my father in law it has 63000 miles on it 6 speed manual Bose stereo and i got it for 1000 dollars but.. the clutch in it is fried i have a lot of mechanical experience but is this something you can do in your driveway i also have to replace the rear main seal which is leaking due 2 sitting in a garage for three years i ordered a f1 stage 2 clutch for it and i hope that that is sufficient for this car. i am going to put this clutch in this week so any tips or pointers would be much appreciated

Welcome to the forum.

There is a sticky about LT1 clutches at the top of this section with some good info in it. The clutch install is not too bad, I just did it a couple months ago. I'd recommend renting a floor tranny jack (unless you have a lift), get some ramps and jack stands and get the car as high as possible.

Definitely go with a pilot bushing, not a bearing. The best way to get the old one out IMO is to use the wet toilet paper method. Worked great for me.

Use some long extensions for the tranny bolts, and remove the tranny from the bellhousing first. Don't forget to pull the shift fork down first! The top left bellhousing bolt is the hardest. I use a prybar and a swivel socket.

For the rear main seal, http://www.pharmacy.arizona.edu/staf...RMainSeal.html

That's just off the top of my head, I'm sure others will post up any other tips I forgot.

Never tried it myself but next time...

Anyway, cool car you have picked up for a song. Now go have fun with it.

That's where I got the idea. I used a 1/2" extension, fit perfect, and the bushing came out like butter. Just close your eyes and mouth, cuz it might shoot out at you.

For that top left bellhousing bolt that is so hard to reach, use a 1/4" drive 14mm swivel socket. The kind where the socket itself swivels, not a swivel attachment.

You are going to need about 2 feet of extension to use reach the top bolt and it is even easier if you put a flex fitting in the middle of the 2 feet where it goes over the transmission.

You might be able to lift the tranny but I can't, I made a bracket of a piece of plywood with two pieces of 2 x 4 nailed to it so the the tranny bottom had a grove to sit in. That on a floor jack with a ratchet strap around the tranny to hold it worked fine for me.

Let us know how that F1 clutch kit works out for you. I saw them on eBay and they were really affordable. i wasn't sure about the quality of it.
