Hurst Shifter Any Good?
Hurst Shifter Any Good?
Hey i was wondering if anybody has this shifter in their LT1 6 speed http://www.hurst-shifters.com/hurst-...PLUS-SHIFTER_4 and if it was any good? Is it really short throw? And if you did install it, was it hard?
I miss manual trans so much. I had to go with auto for my Z due to leg injuries but sometimes I just want to rip the auto out so bad and put in a 6 speed. Anyway I am not sure if it is the exact same shifter but that looks like the one my buddy has in his Z and he loves it. I will try to find out any info if I can I don't hear from him as much anymore since he moved up north.

My feelings about the Hurst Billet Shifter are much the same as Fastcam91's about the Pro shifters. It is shorter, much more positive than stock (no more of those 2nd -> 5th embarrassements!). I think it's perfectly positioned to the stock wheel. No matter what's going on, my hand immediately finds the **** and gets whatever change needed very quickly.
Good Luck ... probably anything will be better than stock!

Back when the car still had the T56, I had a Hurst, and I replaced it with a Pro 5.0. The Pro 5.0 was far superior to the Hurst. It's a work of art.... too bad is covered by the boot.
One issue with the Pro 5.0 stick - its still on the long side, but its possible to take 2" off the top threaded section and still get the **** to thread on. I also found it helped to get longer socket head screws that hold the lever on the base, and double nut them.

Thank y'all for tipping me off about the pro 5.0, I will definitely look into it. Injuneer, I guess i would shave off the bottom? If I shaved off the top wouldn't it end up taking threads off?
Sorry it took so long for me to get a reply and it looks like you already got the info you needed. It is the same shifter my buddy has and he loves it. According to him much shorter and perfect but I believe that has already been covered by at least one other person already. Good luck and hope you enjoy either one you decide to go with.
