How to tell the diference between M6 trans

I was wondering how to tell the difference betwwen the m6 trannies in fbody's. What do i look for or is there a certain casting # somewhere i know 94 to 97 are the good years so i want to know what to look for any input will help. Thanks

A used tranny will have a derivative of the original vehicle VIN on it, including the model year. On a spare I have in my garage, the VIN derivative is on the drivers side, upper part, in one of the rectangles formed by the case ribs. The first letter (2nd position) will be the year:

P = 93
R = 94
S = 95
T = 96
V = 97
W = 98
y = 00
X = 99
Y = 00
Then it becomes a number
1 = 01
2 = 02

Shoebox has a photo of the number, but its on an auto. But it will give you an idea of what you are looking for:

Thank you. I am going to be picking up a m6 tommorow and the guy told me it was out of a 95 and wanted to have an idea what to look for .
