How to remove pinion gear?

Im removing a carrier and gears from a 10 bolt rear end. I have the carrier out but I can't get the little pinion gear out. How do you remove those? I thought it would come out after removing the nut but it won't budge.

You have to hammer them to get them out, but be careful not to damage the threads while doing so ... maybe spin the nut on a couple threads or something ... or use a brass drift.

Get an "expendable" pinion nut. Thread it on and bang the hell out of it with a baby sledge hammer. That sucker is in there pretty tight as you will see.
