how much trans fluid

hey guys, just got my car (97 t/a) running after two years of sitting,I had a tranny leak from the pan so before I got it running I changed the filter and gasket.

I have put 6 qts in and I still don't have anything showing on my dip stick,it drives and shifts o.k. not great so I am wondering if I should still put more fluid in it ?

thanks

Are you checking the level with the fluid hot, in park, and the engine running? Do you have an A4 or an M6? Capacities differ with both transmissions, but for just a filter change you should only need to add 5 quarts for an auto, 4 for a T56.

Re: how much trans fluid

Its an a4 ,yes in park and the car was hot just drove it 7-8 miles so I don't dare add anymore.

would the fact it sat for 2 yrs allow more fluid to drain down to the pan and account for the addition of more fluid?

Yes, as long as you are sure the stick is dry, keep adding till full
