How much to get tranny fluid changed
How much to get tranny fluid changed
I got a 94 Z with an auto, i wanted to get the trans fluid changed, whats the average orice for this, also is it really important to go to a repputable shop or is this a pretty basic procedure that anyone can do?
Re: How much to get tranny fluid changed
It is very easy to do. I just changed the fluid in my pan not too long ago. If you want to get ALL of the oil out of the transmission then go to a shop and get it flushed. I was told by a shop that wanted to rip me off that it'd be near $100. But that's kinda high, maybe $80 or so. If all you want to do is change the transmission filter and the oil in the pan, which is probly 1/3 of all the oil (the other 2/3 is probably lodged in the converter) then just do this easy step guide.
1) Put one of the front wheels on a ramp, but only one. (i put the drivers side up)
2) Put a pan under the actual transmission pan to catch the oil that will come out
3) Losen all the bolts, then take out the bolts on the side that has both wheels on the ground
4) This will drain most of the oil in a controllable manner. Now take the rest of the bolts off and drop the pan
5) clean the pan and take any shavings off that might be on the magnet in the pan
6) Pull out the old filter, and slide the new one in
7) Make sure you got the old gasket completely off the pan and transmission bottom. Then lay the new one on top of the transmission pan. Make sure you have a rubber seal/gasket, i've heard of people having leaking problems from cork ones.
8) Start bolting it back up to about 12 ft/lbs per bolt. (I don't have a torque wrench so i used a normal socket wrench and just didn't use the very outside of the handle, but held towards the center. Then tightened them until it felt like i needed quite a bit of power to turn it again. Hasn't leaked yet)
Hope this helped!
