Re: How loud are the new Dana 60's?

From what I read about gears some brands are louder... the ones that came in production vehicles were made by spicer and as strong as aftermarket. I ran the spicers behind my cars.

Where is a good place to get this gear brand? I'm willing to give my rear one more shot to quiet down.

They are what come in factory production vehicles... not sure if the ones you'd buy through summit would be the same, but I would think so. Mine came out of a late 70s dodge 1 ton truck.

The gears in this link appear to be OEM.

I only have 20 miles on it and so far it's dead quiet....but it looks like they might of put a spool in it instead of the tru-trak

Nope, it's the true-track, just way more stiff than what I'm use to.

That is exactly what i thought at first that thing is super tight i had to get going about 40 and weave back and forth to get the posi to unlock. Mine is quite also.

I have about 60 miles on it so far and it has loosened up a lot, man did it give me a scare though thinking it might be a spool.

Now I just need to figure out why the ABS won't work.

I'm VERY relieved that you got a quiet one. How long did the install take?

if a ring and pinion are set up correctly they will be quiet,, this is a fact, i have installed over 60 ring and pinions and have only had 2 sets that made a loud howel and the pattern was perfect, both times they were returned for another set that were quiet.

ring and pinion set up is an art form and requires time and skill

People have had the gears setup by gear legends in the danas...and still gotten noise. Not to mentioned the people at Strange/Moser have setup thousands of gears and they are noisey straight from them..

I'm starting to get a high pitched whistling noise from the gears when ever gas is applied.

I agree that a quality gearset installed by someone who knows what they're doing should be quiet. It just doesn't make sense that the Dana 60 would be significantly louder the the other choices due to some design element. I mean, the Dana 60 has been around for years and noise hasn't been an issue. Maybe the guys at Strange just need some practise with the Dana 60's.

I hope my 10-bolt lasts until the noisy S60 issue is fixed.
