How long will a T5 last on a LT1

I am saving money for my LT1 swap and was wondering if my T5 would last up to the LT1 (which will be modded) for a while or should I just go ahead and plan on getting a T56 from the start of the swap?

Yes, a T-5 will bolt up to a LT1...why wouldn't it? LT1 has the same bell bolt pattern of any SBC. Its a toss up on how long it lasts really. Lots of people have broken T5's behind 305's and some have lasted behind 350's and 383's. Basically you won't know til you try it. A WC T5 is rated at a measly 300ft lbs of torque...not very good. However, If this is a swap you are looking into...are you wanting to put a LT1 in a third gen F-body? If so, a word of advice....if you already have a T5 USE it. I had a 89 formula that originally came with a T5 and a 305TPI. I switched to a 355 and still used the T5 and it held up fine, but I was always afraid I would break it. I went out and bought a T56...supposed to be a bolt in deal...well its close but not really. If I were to do it again I would most definately just get the T5 built with The G-force T5 kit...it makes it hold more power then a T56 for Less money then you would have into a T56 swap. Plus the T5 is a good 50+ lbs lighter. I know these are questions that weren't asked, but I wanted to give my opinion. I also Probably wouldn't use a T5 behind the LT1 til the T5 was beefed up some.

my opinion... I'd get a t56...

I am a little rough on transmissions. but there are not really any fast v6s with 5-speeds.

All the ones making good power, break the trannies/clutches. With only like 350-ft lbs of torque.

and yes its the same tranny.

No, V6 transmissions are NOT the same tranny. The V6 ones have different gear sets that are much steeper, and that makes them much weaker as well. For the price of swapping in a T56, getting all the necessary parts to so it works correctly and and have a good strong clutch you are over $2000. T5 clutches are like Half the price of T56 ones of the same style. Also a Built T5 built on your T5 core would be around $1500...and is rated around 600ft lbs. were as like I said, you will have $2000 in a T56 swap....and its rated for 450ft lbs....and is bigger and heavier.
