How hard to drop a 4L60-E tranny?

I have done numerous header installs, all kinds of suspension stuff and some minor (valvetrain) engine work. I am about to get my little brother's built 4l60-E tranny to put in my 94 trans am.
Most local places were going to charge 150.00 a car to swap his tranny to my car and my tranny to his car.

I was just trying to see if this is something the two of us could do on our own? Any online manuals as to removing the tranny? If we can do it ourselves, that is another 300.00 for more mods.

Thanks

i had no problems dropping the tranny to have it rebuilt and install a converter over the winter

i dropped it myself and it took a friend and me under 3 hours to put it back in.

you can pick up a haynes/chilton manual if you want

Once you've done it a couple times and have all the right tools it's not bad at all. If the car is up in the air I can have the tranny out in an hour to an hour and a half.

Me and a friend of mine dropped the tranny in my LT1 last weekend. I think that headers was more difficult than pulling the tranny out. Just make sure you have enough extensions to get at the top bolts and it is a 2 person job....or at least some of it is.

with a couple of people, the right tools, and a nice tranny jack, it should only take a couple hours to drop it, and about as long to put another back in...

Good deal. We always work together, my little brother and I. We have worked together on everything done to my 94 Trans Am, his 96 heads/cam Z, and my 97 30th SS.

So since we will be swapping trannies, we will need two tranny jacks. And I will make sure to have a ton of extensions. Those are the one tool of mine that always seems to come up missing. Flare nut tools are another item I will make sure to have.

Thanks again guys.

You only need 1 tranny jack (swap the trannies out), and even then you can really use a regular floor jack with a long, flat, wide piece of wood. Only downside about using a floorjack is when you lower it you need a 4x4 piece of wood or something similiar to slide the tranny onto. Getting the tranny back up on the floor jack is a little fun too. Think of it as exercise for your brain.
