slave cylinder woes

started a second job and don't have time to finish the car, so I had someone come get it to put on the clutch fork and slave cylinder and to read the comp..............
came home and apparently the tow guy ripped the guts out of the slave cylinder, nothing looks particularly mangled, can this be disassembled? is it possible that it just got pulled apart and not broke? I'm having trouble getting anywhere with them and need to know if the part needs replaced or not.

this is what I found in the parking spot

the little sliver is a sliver of plastic that looks like it was sheared off when it was pulled apart

Wow, how the heck did the tow guy manage to do that? Did he chain the car down by the slave cylinder? Really odd that the innards of the cylinder, which are inside the bellhousing when it's bolted up, have fallen out. Either the cylinder got ripped right off, or it was hardly bolted up and someone pressed the clutch pedal causing the piston to shoot right out .

What you're looking at in the picture are the innards of the slave. Piston, steel sleeve and all. Is the plastic housing broken? If so, you'll need a whole new cylinder. I recommend trying to put it back together if you have all the parts that came out of and none are damaged. Look at the O-rings carefully. Any nicks or cuts mean you need to replace them, possibly the cylinder itself. The sliver of plastic you mentioned is part of a nylon strap that runs around the end of the piston holding it back in the cylinder. It's only job is to make assembly easier and breaks the first time the clutch pedal is pressed.

You might want to do a search on parts for sale board for a slave cylinder. They can be pretty pricey brand new.
