How to get to the trans line to plug it back in?
When the motor was out, I swapped converters, thus the trans was removed from the engine. When I put it all back together I swore I had the line in solid. Guess not. When I fired it up there was trans fluid leaking out. I got under and looked and sure enough the line must not have gotten inserted all the way.
Couple questions... Will I have to remove the circular clip in order to push the trans line back in?
Second, how in the **** am I supposed to get to that thing? there's no way in hell I can get my hand up there. I thought about dropping the cross member and lowering the back of the transmission down, but then the tq arm will probably hold it up. And unhooking the tq arm and rehooking it by myself on my back under the car isn't a lot of fun.
Oh, and the nice sharp heat shield right in the way doesn't help either...
Any thoughts?

Re: How to get to the trans line to plug it back in?
This happened to me on my last transmission swap....
The fittings from the new transmission didn't mate up to the old lines that well, so we had to replace the part that screws into the transmission, that the line screws into, with the original ones
We had to drop the cross member, loosen the torque arm, and have two of us kinda pull the transmission down a bit. Then get a small wrench, and a friend with small hands in there. It took 3 of us, and probably wasn't the smartest idea, but it worked.
The only other option we could see was to drop the transmission
, and we weren't felling that idea was good for us

thanks for the response, but I'm curious where the wrench comes into play? on the ls1, the lines just "plug" into the trans and are retained by a clip.

Sorry for the confusion.
I guess the thought is still the same to get the extra few inches of room though

Mike,
To install the lines you just put the clip on then force them into the trans until you hear them click.
I pulled the clips with a dental pick and reinstalled them with a pair of syrgical foreseps, the locking kind. You can reach the line further up front and pull it down some to reach it better to install the clip.

Re: How to get to the trans line to plug it back in?
you lost me al... where on the line does the clip go? From what I Can tell the line just has the flare on the end. the clip goes around a platic retainer that's built into the side of the trans. I don't think there's anything on the line itself for the clip to attach to. But it's sounds to me like with the clip already in place on the retainer, I should be able to just push it in. Gonna give it a shot tonight

The clip does go on the trans side of the fitting and once that it's properly in place then you can just push the line in until it clicks then slide the protective cover over the fitting.
If you want you can swing by tomorrow after work and I can talk you thru it in person.
