how durable is a stock t56

I ask because right now I have a cam and nitrous car. And I'm looking to put some heads ontop of it. It dyno'd at 489 to the tires on a 150 shot through an auto. So I'd potentially be looking at 550 or so the the wheels with h/c and a 150 shot. Will a stock t56 be able to take that kinda abuse. This is of course the an appropriete clutch such as a spec stg. 3

What are yalls opinions on this

factory rated to 450lb ft of torque...

and we've all seen guys run alot more than that, and regularly flog the dog snot out of them.

i would look into upgrading some of the internals...kindda preventative maintenance. before it breaks and takes something else out with it.

I often wonder the same thing. I'm planning on using the Weir bellhousing and old-style flywheel/PP assembly on mine, I hope it doesn't self destruct on the first good launch.

T56 people in the know....will a 1.6 60' send T56 parts down the track? I don't know how much HP I'm making, but the times with the TH350 are in the sig.

T56's are officially rated at 450 ft. lbs of torque. I am sure people have broken them, but I have seen and read about sooo many people launching with 1.6-1.8 60 ft's and are holding without issues. There are sooo many people running them on 200-300 shots all stock, and running 10's with them. They are extremely strong transmissions and there are small things that can be done to keep them working fine. I know if I don't end up trading mine for an auto so I can bracket race, that I'll be using mine without reservation. I am confident enough that I don't even give it much thought. i would be much more worried about rears, and other **** first. It would take a mighty stout 4L60 to even be compared to the strenght of a T56.

Re: how durable is a stock t56

i currently have a t56, and w/ about 15 or so passes on the new combo cutting 1.60-1.68 60' and im sad to say its hurt a bit, but i still launch the **** out of it. problem being that i have a large vibration about 60-65 mph, i checked everything out, and it turns out to be that my output shaft is "tweaked" or bent. but still runnign strong, shifting smooth and etc.. other than the vibration its mint!

but all bs aside, if it breaks im going w/ a th400 and a tbrake.

good choice. Really IMO the only thing stonger than a T56 would be a Th350 or Th400. A T56 that has been built by G-force or someplace like that would be just as stout as a built Th400 tho.
