I need help with my tranny! I'm going to beat it to death with my fists!

I replaced the pilot bushing, and the car ran great that day. Today , between 1000-2000 rpm, the car hesitates sometimes when I give it a little gas. Anyone have any idea? I also replaced the pinion seal, if that has anything to do with it?

Ack! Now its doing it through ALL of the rpm range! I tried flooring it in 1st,2nd,3rd,4th and it would surge on and off, sort of like slamming the brakes every two seconds. Clutch slipping? PLEASE help me! The clutch itself is less then 4000 miles old, and appears to be in great shape! The flywheel was also resurfaced when it was installed.

I just checked on autozone.com for trouble shooting, and the three symptoms for slipping include:

1 Inspect CLUTCH MASTER CYLINDER Worn or leaking clutch master cylinder/slave cylinder.

2 Inspect CLUTCH DISC Broken, weak clutch disc springs or worn disc facing.

3 Inspect CLUTCH PRESSURE PLATE Damaged or worn pressure plate splines or surface.

Now, the clutch itself is only 3-4k miles old, so it 'was' in great shape when I put it back in. When I took it all apart, I just pulled the actuater off, and never bothered with anything else, I was told that as long as you didn't press in the clutch pedal it'll be fine. I'm very confused, someone help a bro out!

Sounds like you need to pull it apart again and check your PP maybe?

Does it do it during idle/neutral too or just when you have it in gear & under load?

When in gear and under load. I'll be in nuetral and the engine revs up perfectly through the rpm range.

Re: Hesitation after replacing pilot bushing?

If it was a clutch slipping it wouldn't feel like you were hitting the brakes, you would hear the engine racing.

Ususally the pilot bushing is replaced when you are putting in a new clutch. Did you put a new one in when you did the clutch 4000 miles ago? Why did you just put one in?

You may have the wrong size bushing in there. I wouldn't go too much longer before I cracked open the bellhousing to see what's going on. You don't want to damage the input shaft of the trans...that would be bad.

Re: Hesitation after replacing pilot bushing?

Crap, I meant the engine when rev and the car wouldn't go anywhere. My bad! But, I had the clutch installed by a shop 4-5k miles ago, and when I put it up for winter, the pilot bushing went bad ( they never installed a new one ). I talked to a couple guys on here and they said it needed replaced, and when I went to replace it myself, it looked real bad ( scratches all over it, etc. ) I hope that makes a little more sense! The clutch is slipping for sure, but I have no idea why?

Re: Hesitation after replacing pilot bushing?

Ugh...I wonder why they wouldn't put a brand new pilot bushing in there? That's like a $5 part...you should take it back and have the shop who put the clutch in look at it.

Have you seen any oil leaks from under the trans? The rear main seal may have leaked oil onto the clutch disc/flywheel causing the slippage.

The clutch fork may be loose or have partially fallen off...

Can't think of what else...but you should defintely take it back to the shop that put it in and ask them WTF.

One other thing is the clutch disc itself may be worn if you've been abusing it.

I'm curious about this so keep me posted on what happens. Good luck.

Re: Hesitation after replacing pilot bushing?

Don't get me started on how pissed I was about the damn bushing...

Alright, well this weekend I'll at least pull off the actuater to check out the fork. THere was an intake leak, but I fixed it last year.
